The Lingebos (wood nearby the river the Linge) is an artificial
wood with a surface of 115 ha. Some parts are more than 100 years
old.
It was created in the '60's in order of the government for recreation
purposes for the people in the region.
For the construction of a new junction near Gorinchem, there was a need
for sand. This sand was extracted from this area, and left a large lake
for recreation. Nowadays the need for this kind of recreation decreased.
The wood is divided in two parts. One part is still for recreation, the
other part is back to the nature.
In the wood, near the lake, is a campsite. The
rest of the wood is only accessible by car when you pay for it (€ 1,-). The route
is closed by a barrier.
