The production of stone was and is an important way of industry in and around Vuren. The brick stone, cell concrete blocks and the 'lime sand' stones are all produced in Vuren. In the neighborhood of the river 'De Waal' you'll find several stone factories. One type of stone is named to this location, it's the 'Waalformaat (Waal size)'.

The stone factory Heuff produced till 1991 bricks for a period of 100 years. After 1991 the factory became dilapidated.

In 2002 the whole area around the factory is renovated. With this renovation the roof of steel is removed. The only remains are the old stone ovens and the chimneystack.

Lime sand stone factory 'Loevestein'

On 8 September 1903 the company 'Loevestein' was set up. The new factory was build on the place of the old glass factory. In 1904 the factory started to produce 'lime sand stone'.  From this material they made 'brick stones', 'decorate stones' and 'profile stones'.

The factory was closed on 1 April 2003

Stone factory Ytong / Xella

The stone factory where they produce the cells concrete, is the factory of Ytong. This factory had the last years a couple of names. Until 1993 the factory was called the 'Durox gas concrete', after that it became 'Ytong' and now from 1 February 2004 it is Xella cells concrete.

The name 'Ytong' will be the product name of the concrete.
